Pain Free Tooth Restoration and Prevention
Composite Fillings
When tooth decay develops, timely intervention with a dental filling is essential to restore function and prevent further damage to the tooth. At Buffalo Dental, we primarily use tooth-colored resin composite fillings – also known as “white fillings” – to provide a comfortable, natural looking restoration. Our experienced dentists routinely perform these procedures everyday, using local anesthesia to guarantee a pain-free experience.

Why We Recommend
Resin Composite Fillings
Resin composite fillings are a durable and reliable solution to protect your tooth against further decay. We typically recommend composite fillings for most situations since they offer a natural appearance and will last for many years.
The only downside to composite fillings is they can be slightly more expensive than amalgam fillings. The main determining factor of the cost will be your insurance policy since sometimes they view composite as a cosmetic upgrade when technically amalgam would suffice. If this is a concern for you, we are always happy to explain the differences so you can make the best decision for your situation. If cost is a concern, we offer our Smile Saving Plan to allow patients to get discounted dental services without insurance.

What to Expect When Getting a Filling
If your dentist identifies tooth decay during your dental exam, a filling procedure will likely be recommended. Fillings are incredibly common and the procedure itself is quick and painless. Often taking 30 minutes or less. Here’s what you can expect when getting a filling:

Anesthetic and Clearing the Decay
Your appointment begins with your dentist carefully administering local anesthesia to completely numb the area and ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure. Once numb, the decay is gently and thoroughly removed from the tooth with a specialized dental drill.

Applying and Finishing the Composite Filling
Next, your dentist prepares the space by cleaning and shaping it to securely hold the filling. Once the site is prepared, we then carefully apply the tooth-colored resin composite material and mold it into place. We then use a specialized curing light to quickly harden the filling.
Finally, your dentist polishes and shapes the filling, then tests the bite to ensure everything feels natural and comfortable. After a quick floss, you’re all done and free to eat and drink right away.
