Restoring Your Smile
Dental Bridges
Extensive damage or decay to a tooth will sometimes require tooth extraction and a dental bridge may be the best option to fill in the gap. A dental bridge is used to span across missing teeth to restore your beautiful smile. Our team at Buffalo Dental has helped fit hundreds of patients with dental bridges that look and feel just like their original teeth.

Dental Bridge Procedure
Getting a Dental Bridge: What to Expect
If a patient is missing any number of teeth, a dental bridge can be used to attach false teeth to fill in the gaps and restore functionality. This procedure is broken down into two visits where you can expect the following:
During your first visit we will prepare the abutment teeth for crowns which will then act as anchors for the bridge. Then we will make impressions of your teeth and any gaps which are then sent to a lab so they can start making the final bridge. In the meantime, we will place a temporary bridge which will allow you to chew and speak without any issues. Once the final bridge is ready, we will place it and make any necessary adjustments to ensure it fits perfectly in your mouth.

Types of Dental Bridges: Traditional Dental Bridge
The most common dental bridge consists of two crowns bonded to natural teeth on either side of a gap, with synthetic teeth (pontics) in between. Traditional dental bridges offer the best combination of functionality and aesthetics with a minimally invasive procedure.

Cantilever Dental Bridge
A cantilever bridge uses a crown on only one end, unlike traditional bridges. This offers less stability than a traditional bridge, due to being secured only on one side. But it can be a good option to consider when there is only one healthy adjacent tooth.

Maryland Dental Bridge
The Maryland Bridge offers a less obtrusive solution by using resin and metal wings that are bonded to the backs of the abutment teeth for support. This eliminates the need for a crown on each abutment tooth which makes it an attractive option. The down side of the Maryland Bridge is they have less support and are not recommended for the back teeth. They also have a tendency to loosen or break over time. This makes it a better option for front teeth or kids who need to wait for their mouth to finish growing.
