Restoring the Strength and Function of Your Teeth

Dental Crowns

If you have a chipped, cracked, or damaged tooth, a dental crown is a great option to consider. Dental crowns are a functional cap that is molded to fit your tooth perfectly and color matched to be nearly unnoticeable. This will protect your tooth from further damage, restore its functionality, and leave your smile looking great.

What to Expect

Dental Crown Procedure

A dental crown or cap is used to help shape a tooth and provide a long lasting solution to an extensively damaged tooth. These are not simple fillings and typically require more prep work on the tooth to remove decay or chipped parts of the teeth. Crowns typically last much longer than fillings and can be a more permanent solution.

The entire procedure is planned out digitally using a high-tech 3D scanning device called iTero. A temporary acrylic crown is placed on the tooth while our dental laboratory uses cad-cam technology to mill and customize the crown for you in terms of appearance. At your follow up visit, the temporary crown is removed, and the permanent crown is verified for fit, and then permanently cemented.

Dental Crowns vs. Fillings: What’s the Difference?

A dental crown is different from a filling in few ways. You can expect a dental crown to cover a larger surface area of the tooth, while a filling is primarily used for smaller applications like your standard cavity. As a patient, you might not notice a major difference while you’re receiving care. Both dental crowns and fillings are minimally invasive options done under local anesthetic intended to care for a tooth and provide good protection against further damage or decay.

When to Visit Our Team at Buffalo Dental

We recommend that you visit your local dental office two times per year to keep your teeth healthy and clean. Tooth decay and damage can be prevented by regular care, good brushing, regular flossing, and healthy eating habits.

Accidents happen and life can sometimes get busy, making it difficult to get to the dentist. If you suspect that you have a cavity or a recently chipped tooth, be sure to make an appointment. Waiting any amount of time will only leave the chance for things to get worse and cause further damage to your teeth.
