Cosmetic Dental Bonding
What to Expect from a Cosmetic Dental Bonding Procedure
Cosmetic dental bonding procedures are very similar to standard fillings. The main difference is dental bonding requires minimal drilling since the surface only needs to be roughened. Aside from that, the entire cosmetic dental bonding procedure is painless and done chairside the same day as your appointment.

Preperation
Before we start anything, your dentist will inspect the damaged tooth and consult you on the procedure. If you would like to move forward, your dentist will bring out samples and select the right shade of resin that perfectly matches the color of your tooth.
It is important to note that most cases do not require anesthesia since there are rarely nerves in the operational area and there will be minimal drilling. If there are any concerns for nerves in the area, your dentist will administer the appropriate anesthetic.

Dental Bonding Procedure
- The procedure itself starts with lightly roughening the surface where the resin will be applied.
- After the surface is prepped, the resin is applied and molded into the right shape.
- The resin is then cured with a tungsten halogen light that hardens the material.
- Once the resin is hardened, we polish the surface and ensure everything fits correctly.

Aftercare
- There might be some slight sensitivity (similar to a normal filling) after the procedure, but you are completely fine to resume eating and drinking immediately after.
- There is no specific aftercare for dental bonding aside from practicing good dental hygiene by brushing twice a day and flossing regularly.

Important Considerations for Cosmetic Dental Bonding
While cosmetic dental bonding is great for repairing smaller chips in a quick and cost effective manner. It is important to note that resin offers less strength and longevity than ceramic alternatives, meaning they may need to be replaced again 4-8 years.
Resin cosmetic bonding is designed to be fairly resistant to stains, but not as much as ceramic. Resin can become discolored over an extended period of time. To mitigate this, be sure to brush your teeth twice a day and rinse your mouth after having heavily dyed or colored drinks (including coffee).
