Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are an excellent solution for patients looking to restore or improve their smile. We often refer to veneers as “smile makeovers” since we are able to restore tooth shape, spacing, and color where the original teeth might have been chipped, stained, or broken. Whether you’re looking to fix a small chip or reimagine your smile, our team at Buffalo Dental is here to help.

What to Expect When Getting Veneers

Dental veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry solutions available today. They are thin, custom-made ceramic shells that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. The process itself is minimally invasive, offering beautiful and long-lasting results.

Preperation

Before anything begins, your dentist will perform a thorough evaluation to determine if veneers are the right choice for you. If so, you’ll review various shade options together to ensure a natural color match with your existing teeth.

Once the perfect shade is selected for your veneer, we move on to preparing the tooth surface by removing a small amount of enamel from the front of the tooth. This creates room for the veneer and ensures a strong bond to the surface. This process is relatively painless on its own, but we like to administer local anesthetic to make sure you are completely comfortable.

Procedure

Once the teeth are prepped, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth to send to a lab where your custom veneers will be created. In the meantime, we will place temporary veneers to protect your teeth.

At your follow-up appointment, the permanent ceramic veneers will be carefully bonded to your teeth. Your dentist will make any final adjustments to ensure the fit and bite are just right. After applying a final polish, you are free to enjoy your new smile!

Caring for Your Teeth After Veneers

Veneers don’t require any special aftercare beyond your regular dental routine. Continue brushing twice daily, flossing regularly, and visiting your dentist for cleanings and checkups.

Other Considerations for Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are a long-lasting solution, often lasting 10-20 years or longer with proper care. While they are strong and durable, we recommend using some caution when using your teeth as tools to open things or biting into extremely hard foods (like Jolly Ranchers or other hard candies), as this could damage the veneers.

Keep in mind that while veneers offer excellent aesthetic results, they are a cosmetic procedure—meaning any underlying oral health issues like gum disease or tooth decay should be addressed before veneers are placed.
